Berokyo Program Launcher

Hi all,

sorry its been so long since any type of posting - hardly have time to get everything done let alone update equipment and get some testing done! I think the same is felt whatever side of the Pond you are on!

Anyway, myself and a colleague have just updated our playback PC's. I have the full spec if people are interested but to cut a long story short:

Silverstone Full ATX Desktop chassis - fits horizontally into the input stack.

i5 Asus MBoard - can't remember model number

i5 CPU / 4Gb Ram

2 x 1TB Drives

Nvidia GTS 250 Gfx card.

Windows 7 Pro 32bit !!

Windows has caused a few issues but with a VMware of XP installed, we seem to have all things covered! (Don't forget that Win7 pro has its own XP Mode built in - to keep things neat I decided not to use this and keep things wrapped up in a separate Virtual machine)

Extra Nic Card for access to Internet network and also our CCTV Network. The network switching is not as easy as it was in XP as both systems seem to want a reboot after any internet work before they see all the network drives on the CCTV Network. Something I need to do a bit more research on! - Anyone else experiencing this issue?

TVOne C2-160 down converter running off the added serial header (The Mboard is one of the few still available with a COM header). Gives immediate conversion to S-Video for direct to DVD. Although the control software states Vista only - I can confirm it works with the latest firmware.

Videobox Frame grabber and Videobox pro software.  - gives demultiplexing on the fly for quick capture to DVD or file for editing etc.

Canopus Grass Valley Pegasus card installed  - hardware encoding of Screen to HQ 4.2.2 avi files.

Anyway - all seems to be humming along nicely.

The purpose of this posting though was to mention a great little program launcher (see title).

There are some great reviews online so I won't type away here but its structure and configuration  make it great for our use in a PC filled with all sorts of players, tools and clients.

Basically, think of a Cabinet with unlimited shelves. Each shelf can have an unlimited amount of items on. Each item can be tagged to be come searchable.

I have shelves for CCTV Tools, CCTV Players, CCTV Clients, Video Tools, Video Players, System Tools, CCTV Links, Template Documents. etc..

Each item you place on the shelf (say a player) is then tagged with keywords.

If I search for AVI then only the items tagged with AVI will stay on the shelf. etc etc.

Anyway - have a play and see what you think. It really has tidied things up and gives very quick access to all those weird players. It also saves embarrassment  when someone turns up and you have to spend 10 minutes searching for the player you know you have but just can't remember the name or what the icon looks like!
